The Kacherski/Morita Duo

Chicago Artopia presents The Kacherski/Morita Duo, featuring guitarist Jay Kacherski and pianist Lina Morita, for an engaging evening celebrating the expressive possibilities of guitar and piano.

Formed in 2005, the Kacherski/Morita Duo is dedicated to performing standard repertoire while expanding the repertoire for piano and guitar through collaborations with contemporary composers. Over the years, the duo has premiered and commissioned new works by composers including Clarice Assad, Jefferson Todd Frazier, José Galeote, Olga Almelkina-Vera, David Mitchell, Alex Nazaretski, and Cutberto Cordoba Nieto, among others.

Their commitment to new music is showcased on their recording Landscapes (Frameworks Records), which features many of these newly commissioned and premiered works. Alongside contemporary compositions, the duo’s programs explore beloved classical works, creating a dynamic musical experience that connects tradition with new artistic voices.

Kacherski and Morita are celebrated for their musical chemistry, technical excellence, and expressive depth. As Phoenix Classical noted, “the pairing works brilliantly”, describing their music as “haunting & evocative, tender & fiery, joyful & mysterious,” while praising the duo’s great technique and poetic sense of phrasing.
