Tango 21 Dance Theater - Tango

Step into the world of Argentine tango with Tango 21 Dance Theater!
Experience an unforgettable evening of electrifying performances, powerful rhythms, and the passionate artistry of world-class dancers. Witness the elegance, drama, and intensity of tango—live on stage in Chicago.

Featuring performances by Tango 21 Dance Theater co-founders Jorge Niedas and Liz Sung, along with ensemble dancers and evocative tango music, this immersive performance blends traditional technique with modern storytelling, movement, and sound.

Tango 21 Dance Theater tells original, contemporary stories through the language of Argentine tango. Their productions explore the poetic depth of tango lyrics and fuse the dance’s classical forms with contemporary dance, music, and theater.

For 145 years, tango has fascinated, scandalized, and romanticized. Today, it continues to inspire deep human connection on the social dance floor—and fuel the passion of artists on stage.

Founded in 2014, Tango 21 Dance Theater has grown from an extension of Niedas’ Tango 21 school into a vibrant ensemble of Chicago-based dancers, actors, and musicians. Touring year-round throughout the Midwest, the company continues to reimagine tango for the modern stage—bold, evocative, and unforgettable.

The Art of Song, Opera

The Art of Song

Nyela Basney - Pianist

Jose Vargas Ramirez - Vocalist

Hillary Watkins - Vocalist

Veronica Samiec -Vocalist

Join us for an inspiring afternoon of music as Chicago Artopia presents The Art of Song, a celebration of the timeless beauty of art songs and arias. This recital will highlight works by renowned composers such as Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, Gabriel Fauré, Giacomo Puccini, and more, performed in six different languages: English, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Russian.

Drawing on the rich history of art songs, which began in the late 18th century as intimate, home-based performances for voice and piano, this concert will showcase how this genre has grown into a sophisticated art form for the concert stage while still maintaining its intimate charm.

Our performers—Hillary Watkins, Jose Vargas Ramirez, Veronica Samiec, and Nyela Basney—are all connected through their time at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where Nyela Basney currently serves as a member of the Artist Faculty.

We invite you to join us for this special event on Sunday, November 10th, at 3:00 PM at the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture. Admission is free, and we look forward to sharing the beauty and artistry of song with you.

Community Mosaic Mural Installation (2nd Date)

We want to take a moment to give a big THANK YOU to Green Star Movement and the amazing youth panel for awarding us and working on the opportunity to help beautify the community with a mosaic mural. We also want to express our deepest appreciation to 23rd Ward Alderman Silvana Tabares and her wonderful staff (especially Ann), who worked very hard to make this possible. Without them, this project would not have been able to become a reality. Additionally, we would like to thank CSX Railroad for allowing this project to take place on their property.
